Jada: Meet Andrew (Oak) a crew member of Hoffman Harvesting

Andrew (Oak)

Joining us on his first harvest tour is Andrew (Oak) Simpson, a 20 year-old Scotsman, who can be seen both in a truck and on a combine. Before coming to the States, Andrew was a policeman. His responsibility was to guard the Northern Oil Pipelines. Not quite happy with his profession, he saw harvest as a new opportunity to try something new and decided to go with it. Andrew is enjoying harvest because he thinks we have a great crew and boss. He has also learned some new great skills.

When you are on harvest, you live in close quarters. Andrew’s favorite memory on harvest is proof. …. One of our crew members fell out of bed at 3 a.m. shouting, “Hold on!” as he fell. Do you think Roly thought he was being left?

Andrew says he thought he would miss his family and friends a lot while he was here, but feels like he hasn’t had time to think about it as we are always doing something. It especially helps when he has a good friend here with him on harvest- Roly. If we visited Andrew at home, he would show us how agriculture works in Scotland, take us to the sea and enjoy a pint of Tennents, a beer made in Scotland, with us.

Fun Fact: Before coming to America, Andrew wasn’t around kids much but he’s a natural with them. In fact, Kaidence has taken a liking to him maybe too much- I think she has her first crush! I told him if harvesting doesn’t work out, maybe he should try working at a daycare.
