2011 Wheat Harvest Wrap-Up
After months of unpredictable weather, including everything from drought conditions in the south to extreme temperatures in the plains and the always unpredictable hail and rain, 2011 has truly been an exciting and noteworthy wheat harvest.
All of us at DuPont Crop Protection would like to thank everyone who made the 2011 All Aboard Wheat Harvest Tour™ possible, especially our hard-working correspondents and guest correspondents working to bring in the wheat and the High Plains Journal team.
From wheat and weather conditions, adventures and celebrations to their daily harvest challenges and successes, Jada, Emma, Jenna, Megan and Scott did a great job of keeping us up to date on the busy lives of wheat harvest crews who are working to feed the world.
We’d also like to thank our loyal followers who have trekked through this year’s harvest with us and continue to support America’s wheat industry.
With a successful harvest behind us, it’s time for our teams to make their way home and get ready for next season. Thanks for a great harvest and please keep it safe.

Get a Jump on Next Year’s Crop
2011 had unusually tough growing conditions. To avoid future problems, take action now to get next season’s wheat crop off to a good start.
Getting a jump start now on next season’s crop protection gives you a better chance for controlling weeds in the spring when weather can be uncooperative and unpredictable. With the busy schedules of wheat growers, every choice made now can make a big difference later. That’s why knocking out weeds early and keeping them under control is so important.
DuPont Crop Protection offers reliable residual weed-control solutions that you can count on year after year. When applied with a topdress fertilizer treatment, DuPont™ Finesse® cereal and fallow herbicide provides a clean field to get your wheat off to a healthy start. Its superior residual performance keeps working throughout the season to help finish with a clean crop for faster, easier harvesting. Finesse® can be applied preemergence or any time from the 1-leaf stage to boot. See label for full directions and precautions for use.
Protecting your crops now means a smoother transition next spring, and it’s the first step toward a bountiful crop. After all, when you’re feeding the world, a successful season from start to finish is what really matters.

Wheat and Weather
Whether creating the perfect harvest climate or sending threatening clouds, Mother Nature seems to have her own schedule with little regard for wheat harvest. From severe weather to beautiful, sunny days, wheat producers and harvesters are out there growing and harvesting wheat to feed the world.
2011 All Aboard Wheat Harvest Tour™ correspondents have been reporting the highs and lows of the 2011 wheat harvest season, including the ever-present, unpredictable weather. On June 28, Scott Clark noted, “In this business a matter of hours or even minutes can make the difference between getting the crop in the bin or having Mother Nature harvest it for you.”
With the launch of our new page, Wheat and Weather, you can learn how to manage weather uncertainties, see some of the most severe conditions ever reported and how DuPont is supporting wheat growers through everything nature has to offer. Stay safe, wheat lovers!

Plan ahead to manage weather uncertainties
The 2011 wheat harvest has already seen its fair share of severe weather. Emma experienced heavy rains, high winds and drought in Oklahoma. Jada took some dramatic tornado photos near Oklahoma City on May 31 and recounted baseball-sized hail on May 30. But as anyone in the wheat business knows, there’s no controlling the weather and still we bring in the wheat to feed the world.
The DuPont team is proud to support America’s wheat growers by sponsoring this tour and providing programs that take some of the uncertainty out of coping with weather, including the DuPont™ Crop Protection Plus® product cost replacement program, which has helped nearly 5,000 growers since 2000.
And as Scott said on June 1, there’s no fooling Mother Nature. Watch the skies and take care. Here’s to a safe, successful 2011 wheat harvest!
